Editorial standards

Accuracy is the entire point of Compound. If our numbers can't be trusted, nothing else matters. Here's how we keep them right.

Where our numbers come from

Every figure about tax, allowances and thresholds is taken from primary sources, principally HMRC and GOV.UK, not copied from other websites. Where we cite a rate, a band or a limit, it reflects the official position for the tax year stated on the page.

We write for the current tax year

UK rules change, and frozen thresholds quietly shift what they mean each year. Every calculator and article states the tax year it applies to (currently 2026/27), and updating for a new tax year is a deliberate, scheduled job, not an afterthought. Our tools run off a single dated tax engine so the maths stays consistent across the whole site.

Clarity over cleverness

We write in plain English and show our working. We'd rather explain why something is true, with a worked example, than assert it and move on. If a topic is genuinely uncertain or depends on your circumstances, we say so rather than pretending there's one neat answer.

A real, accountable author

Compound is written and edited by a named person with a real background in finance, see our About page. Tools may help draft, but a human who understands the subject checks every figure and every claim against the source before it's published. We stand behind what we publish under our own name.

Corrections

We will make mistakes, and when we do we fix them quickly and openly. If you spot something that looks wrong, please tell us, we check it against the primary source and correct it. Significant corrections are noted on the page.

Independence
